More about Peaches Geldof

Blogorrah has more about Peaches Geldof and how she isn't supposed to be so wild, after all (she just wears her clothes super-low). I don't believe it. After all, her mother died from a heroine overdose (so I hear). Anyway, Peaches looks more normal than some bad pics I had seen recently. I like it: the sisters Peaches, Fifi Trixibelle, and Pixie. Their half-sister is (heh) Heavenly Hiraani Tigerlily

California Yankee says that Joe Lieberman is leading in his race

The California Yankee has a blog post about Joe Lieberman's situation. He says:
The latest Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll, conducted August 15-21 found Senator Lieberman 10 percent ahead of Greenwich millionaire-antiwar candidate Lamont. The Lieberman, the Democrat's 2000 vice-presidential nominee's support for the Iraq war has so angered his party that he lost this month's primary election. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Senator Lieberman is running "strong among GOP voters, men, and in the suburbs."

Some of my favorite Victorian artwork

On my son's site, lit19.com, he has some of the paintings of J. W. Waterhouse. Since I like good realistic work with strong drawing, this sort of thing is very appealing to me. He also will be having an Alphonse Mucha exhibition starting in a little over a month. This is the preview site.

Kim Priestrap says "San Francisco Hit & Run Driver Called Himself a Terrorist"

Kim Priestrap writes at Wizbang that the hit and run driver in San Francisco considered that he had committed a terrorist act, and was a terrorist. Authorities in San Francisco, are of course, ignoring that and pretending that he never said it. His family is making excuses.

The hit and run driver was a Muslim in a Jewish neighborhood

The hit and run driver in San Francisco turns out to be a Muslim man, driving in a Jewish neighborhood. Kim Priestrap, writing at Wizbang, has the story.

Astroturfing

Glenn Reynolds pointed out an old post of his about how "campaign finance reform" was astroturfed by leftist foundations. Wikipedia has an interesting entry about the definition and history of astroturfing. Prohibition was the result of a successful astroturfing effort by the Anti-Saloon League. Something apparently similar happened in Victorian England, driven by another, similar organization, the Salvation Army. They successfully campaigned to raise the age of consent from 9 to 16 and to ultimately ban prostitution. More recently, in the late 1970's was the creation of a new class of "prohibited" visual materials. This was accomplished even though it clashed with the interests of another leftist constituancies, male homosexuals. The effort was successful at least in part because the topic was such that it was indefensible. Only NAMBLA is out there, in a Quixotic quest to roll back the age of consent, and what would also negate the 1970's prohibition against a portion of the prohibited visiual materials.

Heather Mills apparently is still ready to take off her clothes at a moments notice

XtraMSN has a piece about Heather Mills posing nude for a photo shoot for a PETA calendar. The pics were apparently taken while Heather was still staying in the lodge on Paul McCartney's estate.

Paul, at Wizbang, says that the Army Corps of Engineers caused the flooding

Paul, writing at Wizbang, says that the Army Corps of Engineers caused New Orleans to flood, not Katrina:
In the months since Katrina, we’ve learned that the storm was a Category 1 by the time she hit New Orleans. No “Super Hurricane," just an average storm. We’ve also learned that the New Orleans Hurricane Protection System was not overwhelmed by Katrina, it collapsed. Causing the Corps of Engineers admit they flooded New Orleans not Katrina… An admission that got scant little media coverage. The Great Flood of New Orleans was not a natural disaster but a man made one.

Kim Priestrap writes about Michael Barone's article called "A Change in the Winds":
Michael Barone has another interesting article today. He writes that recent world events have caused a shift in the political winds in favor of the Republicans
